The Saginaw County Animal Care Department has primary responsibility for enforcement of state and county animal control laws. It has custodial charge of lost or strayed animals in the county and is responsible for euthanization, reclamation, or adoption of said animals. The Department meets regularly with animal care advisory council and volunteer agencies to assist in meeting the needs of the community. Educational programs are provided as a pro active approach in preventing animals related complaints and concerns. An after hours service is provided to ensure 24 hour coverage of animal related emergencies and to assist public health and safety agencies.

Apr 15:  The recent nice weather has already produced some unfortunate incidents. Dogs attacking other dogs and people. First of all, SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET! They are much less likely to display these aggressive tendencies. Intact male dogs can be particularly 'wound up' this time of year due to the females in heat. Be responsible and keep your pets under control. Thank you. Mark

Chief Donald F. Pussehl Jr. said. "Rookie was courageous and fought to the end,".

Sept 03 2003 : Just a note to remind you all that this sunday is the 3rd annual dog walk and auction. This years event is going to be bigger and better than ever. Lots of fun things are planned. Local businesses have been very generous in providing some great items for the auction. Contests, photos, live music, the smoke house, are just some of the fun things planned. So bring the whole family for some fun and prizes. The event is being held at Wicks park on McCarty Rd. from 10 till 3. So mark your calendar and get your pet 'primped' and ready to show off a little. Hope to see you there! Mark

April 1, 2003 : Just an update. Adoptions of seized animals is doing pretty well. However there are still 12 left needing homes. The two youngest are lab mixes approximately 8 months old. Littermates. If you are at all interested in working with an animal that is truly deserving of a quality environment, please give one of these a chance. And my thanks to those who have chosen one of the animals. Mark

On March 20th a hearing was held to decide the disposition of dogs siezed in a cruelty case. The dogs now are available for adoption. Most of these dogs will require some patience as they were not in the best of situations. But if you would like to give a very deserving pet a home we have them. Please come on down to our facility and take a look. Please consider one of these for a pet. Thanks, Mark

Feb. 08, 2003 : More than two dozen Dachshunds were looking for homes in Saginaw Michigan. They were all adopted!
